Long tail keywords were a term coined by Chris Anderson. The actual meaning of this term is a group of words that are used in keyword optimization of websites or blogs or content in general. To be more specific, long tail keyword phrases are nothing but a wider description of the main keyword.
Sounds complex? Okay, take a look at this example and maybe you could figure out what long tail keywords mean. For illustration, let us take a main keyword called blogging tips. Now if you want to expand this a bit more to include specific information, maybe you would try blog writing tip, business blog writing tip, blog marketing tips, seo blog tips, making money blogging tips etc. These are exactly what long tail keyword phrases are all about. You simply use a broader phrase that is related to your main keyword.
What Is The Benefit Of Using Long Tail Keyword Phrases for Bloggers?
To understand the benefits, you first need to understand the market and the keyword search trend used by real customers or visitors. For example, not all wannabe bloggers or visitors to my blog are searching only for blog tips. Unless I, as a blogger do not focus on providing content that is related to each of these long tail keyword phrases related to blog tips, I would miss out on a huge amount of traffic from bloggers who are using alternative phrases like the ones above to search for information.
So for understanding purposes, let us assume that of each 1000 searches conducted by people on blog tips niche, 400 searches are being done using only blog tips as the keyword, 300 searches using making money blogging as the long tail keyword, 200 searches are being conducted using seo blog tips, 25 searches using business blog tips, 25 searches using making money blogging, 20 searches using video blogging tips, 20 searches using blog writing tip and 10 searches on blog hosting tips.
